O Tannenbaum

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
Wie treu sind deine Blätter!

These are the words Miss Lindsey used to sing in her high school German class. December came, and so did the German carols. Years later, Miss Lindsey debuted her German accent on a Christmas Tour singing O Tannenbaum in front of crowds... but that's a story for another time... Frau Goegel would have been proud.

Well friends, the tree is officially fluffed and decorated! Decorating the tree is one of my (Miss Lindsey) favorite moments of the holiday season. Unpacking all of the crazy colored ornaments from the tissue paper, while listening to the sweet sounds of Christmas music, leaves me with laughs and joy.

All of the ornaments on my tree have meaning. Whether they came from my parents when I was young, my travels across the sea, or the very students I am currently teaching, each one holds a special smile that I get to experience each year as I unpack all of the trinkets to decorate my tree.

To all of my students, who thought that giving me an ornament was "just another gift," I wish that you too could experience the joy that I feel when I open your piece and place it on the tree. You will forever be a part of my history. Now that the tree is up, I can finally say, Merry Christmas!
